How the west was visited by a few people from the midwest, eating (day 2)

September 12th

Our drive to Kansas went really well and we had an entire day to explore Lawrence before our performance at the Jackpot Saloon. There’s a school there, and all of downtown is squished onto one long street.

On the campus of the University of Kansas

Jonathan: (To Brian, Matt) You guys notice how quiet everyone here is ? No one is talking…

(All walk thru a busy section of the sidewalk where people are waiting for a bus. No one is speaking)

Brian: You’re right…

Jonathan: I mean even right now I’m whispering. It’s kind of creepy …

Brian: Are we in a science fiction story?

(Man walks by, talking very quietly on phone, an air siren sounds, he stops)

Jonathan: (towards air horn)… sanctuary, sanctuary…

Matthew: They can sense that we are outlanders. I just know it.

Brian : We’re doomed…

Matthew: (points with finger, in high pitched squeal) EEEEEH!

Back at the hotel, Lawrence Kansas

Mike: (Eating a Dominoes pizza made out of Oreos) So how did your day go today, guys?

Jonathan: It was all right. There was a dam. We almost drowned.

Mike: Really?

Jonathan: Yes. The doors open without any warning. We were in the middle of the river. Do you know how long a dog will bark at you when you’re whistling?

Brian: Plus Matt saw a hawk attack a bald eagle.

Zac: (to Matthew) Is that even allowed ?

Matthew: Apparently.

Jonathan: They bark for a long time.

Mike: (pointing at his pizza) This is pretty good…hey, have you guys ever seen the movie, “Bats?”
