Chicago and Elevators.

Friday, October 5th, 2007

The next day we played for KEXP again, on the air this time. The radio station temporarily took over a studio on the third floor of this big brick building and after we were done playing, everyone stood around in a freight elevator.

Somewhere in Chicago, in a freight elevator

Brian: You think this elevator is safe to sit in?

Employee #1: I think so. Why? Does it look unsafe to you ?

Brian: Maybe. Do people still fall down elevator shafts ?

Employee #2: Actually. A few summers ago there were, like, five people who fell down elevator shafts all within two weeks. Seriously.

Employee #1: I remember that. (impersonating news anchor) “Our top story tonight, another person fell down an elevator shaft this afternoon…”

Brian: What? How is that even possible…

Employee #2:Â You probably have to be really distracted.

Employee #1: “This is the third incident in a series of elevator related injuries…”

Employee #2: So. You guys been playing together long ? Or….

October 4th

We pulled into Chicago, to play a private party for the fine folks at KEXP. We were in the Eastern European district of town, so none of the signs made sense to us. Because the venue was locked up went to find a place to eat.

A Restaurant in Chicago

Jonathan: (to Matthew) That pizza is gigantic.

Matthew: I know.

Jonathan: It’s more like a cartoon prop of food…rather than just regular food.

Matthew: You think so?

Jonathan: Yes.

Zac: (looking out window) That lady is crossing the street again.

Jonathan: You don’t think it looks more like cartoon food?

Matthew: I didn’t say that.

Zac: That’s the third time she’s crossed the street since we’ve been here.

Jonathan: Maybe more like radioactive food. With a raygun. You know, (holds out hand) bzzzzzzzzzzzz.

Zac: She doesn’t even look to see if traffic is coming.

Matthew: In the future, will everyone eat big food ?

Jonathan: Most people, yes.
